Bowie State has secured more than $2.3 million in state nursing grants to expand its nursing workforce pipeline. The December 2025 graduating class was reported as achieving a 100% first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate, while the university’s published 2025 overall first-time rate is 95%. Bowie is also launching Maryland’s first Ph.D. in Nursing Education in Fall 2026.
Bowie State’s nursing momentum is only one part of its fall campus story. New Student Orientation for incoming freshmen ran August 19–21 with campus resources, traditions, tours, team activities and social programming designed to help new Bulldogs make the transition into university life. The schedule also included a Greek Panel and Block Show, giving students an introduction to fraternity and sorority culture within the broader orientation experience. Bowie is also expanding in technology. The university is launching a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence for fall 2026, adding to a technology portfolio that already includes computer science, cyber operations engineering, software engineering, data analytics and bioinformatics. Earlier this year, Bowie hosted “Good Trouble: Continuing the Legacy and Purpose of HBCUs,” bringing together more than 80 students, faculty and staff from Mid-Atlantic HBCUs for dialogue about the role and future of these institutions. Student achievement, cultural events, campus organizations and expanding academic programs together shape the Bowie State experience beyond any single news cycle.
Bowie State treats Greek Life as part of student leadership and service, not simply as a list of letters. The university’s orientation programming has included a Greek Panel and Block Show, while its 160th-anniversary Homecoming brought all Divine Nine organizations onto the Yard. One identifiable campus tradition is the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., established at Bowie State in 1968. The chapter’s history illustrates how Greek-letter organizations can be understood through service, leadership, mentoring, culture and campus participation rather than through a directory alone.
