Opportunity Has More Than One Starting Point

Three North Carolina A&T undergraduates completed the 2026 Harvard Du Bois Scholars program, with research addressing environmental justice, public health, housing and policy. A&T’s October 7 report places student inquiry at the center of the story: undergraduates can contribute to questions that affect communities while gaining experience with research and mentorship.
Morgan State’s renewed $800,000 Crankstart scholarship award addresses another route through college—adult learners returning to complete a bachelor’s degree. The four-year investment recognizes students whose education has continued through interruptions and responsibilities outside the classroom.
These stories reveal different dimensions of access. One opens a research opportunity beyond a student’s home campus; the other supports a return to unfinished academic work.
For Campus Life, both deserve attention. Achievement includes the student preparing for advanced research and the returning learner rebuilding a path to graduation. Their circumstances differ, but each story asks how an institution helps people turn an opportunity into sustained progress.
