Campus information that helps students picture the place, the pace, and the possibilities.
Virginia State combines historic pride with a relaxed environment, giving students space to focus while staying connected to nearby opportunities.
Virginia State enters the fall with an unusual national role: the university was selected to host the 2026 HBCU Media Training Symposium, “Owning the Narrative.” The gathering is focused on how HBCUs strengthen institutional storytelling, communications strategy and public engagement. That subject fits VSU especially well because campus life is shaped not only by what happens on campus, but by who gets to explain its meaning to the wider public. VSU also continues to connect academics with professional pathways. Its VSU–Howard pharmacy pipeline recently celebrated its first student to advance through the program, linking undergraduate preparation at Virginia State with professional pharmacy education at Howard University. In clinical health psychology, VSU secured a 10-year APA accreditation for its Ph.D. program, a significant academic marker for the university. Student organizations, Greek chapter service, arts, campus traditions and academics together provide a fuller picture of the Trojan experience than enrollment figures or sports results alone.
Virginia State identifies all nine Divine Nine chapters on campus, including Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Alpha Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Nu Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Tri-Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; and Eta Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. VSU describes these organizations as active in engagement, leadership and community service. The named chapters provide context for understanding documented Greek-letter leadership, service and campus activity at VSU.
